Veb-noun compounds : casse-cou and other brainteasers

Écho des études romanes 2006, 2(1):5-14 | DOI: 10.32725/eer.2006.001

Based on the interpretation of a language test designed to analyse a potential French Verb-Noun compound, the present paper aims at outlining interpretative strategies in meaning assignment and, consequently, a basic typology of these compounds (compositional, delocutive and analogy-based types instantiated by respectively, tourne-broche, casse-tête and porte-avions). This double interpretation strategy makes it possible to explain the presence of V-N compounds like casse-tête which allow for two different interpretative meanings ('weapon' vs 'headache/puzzle').

On the relationship between the predicate structure and the degree of communicative dynamism of the predicative verb

Écho des études romanes 2006, 2(1):15-31 | DOI: 10.32725/eer.2006.002

The aim of the article is to observe the Italian and the English finite verb form from the functional sentence perspective (FSP) point of view, more precisely to observe the degree of . (CD) of the finite verb form in dependence on the structure of the predicate. In FSP the finite verb form represents several communicative units. One is constituted by its categorial exponents: person, number (PNE), tense, mood (TME). The other is constituted by its notional component. The PNE refers to the subject and thus participates on the theme. The TME performs the function of transition proper and the notional component of the finite verb form may perform the...

Creatividad y marketing: la relación entre el eslogan y el mensaje audiovisual en los anuncios televisivos racionales y en los emocionalesSpanish

Creativity and marketing: the relationship between the slogan and the audiovisual message in rational and emotional TV commercials

Gonzalo MARTÍNEZ CAMINO

Écho des études romanes 2006, 2(1):33-45 | DOI: 10.32725/eer.2006.003

The objective of this paper is to analyse the socio-semiotic function of the creativity we can find in written slogans of TV advertisements. In order to achieve our goal we will use a very well established classification in marketing studies: rational publicity (reason-ads) vs. emotional publicity (tickle-ads). We have this two kinds of ads because we have two different forms of textuality. We will see how creativity in the slogans plays different textual functions depending on whether we find it in an emotional ad or in a rational one. The socio-semiotic causes of these differences will be studied too.

Lucia e Cunégonde: il debito di Manzoni nei confronti di VoltaireItalian

Lucia and Cunégonde: Manzoni's debt to Voltaire

Ludovico FULCI

Écho des études romanes 2006, 2(1):47-55 | DOI: 10.32725/eer.2006.004

Manzoni's romanticism does not consist of a critical approach to Enlightenment. His grandfather's memory, his education and three years spent in Paris together with writers, philosophers and historians, who continued the tradition of Enlightenment, confirm that Manzoni paid attention to the European cultural environment and to its evolution. Such a situation is important in order to understand his work, which is not only connected with Italian political and cultural history. The question is about the meaning of Manzoni's masterpiece : do we have to consider the Promessi sposi as a simple and ingenuous apology of Catholicism, or as a serious...

La démythisation d’un mythe littéraire : Robespierre et Pauvre Bitos ou Le Dîner de têtesFrench

Demythisation of a myth in literature: Robespierre and Pauvre Bitos ou Le dîner des têtes

Écho des études romanes 2006, 2(1):57-66 | DOI: 10.32725/eer.2006.005

Historians perceive the real personality of Maxmilian de Robespierre in several considerably different ways. This perception is reflected also in his literary depiction. It is possible to speak about the personality of Robespierre as a literary myth which has two faces. On one hand, it is a myth of a revolutionary - saviour sacrificing himself for the well-being of society. On the other hand, it is a heartless monster hankering after human flesh. Our paper deals with the conception of the personality of Robespierre in two ideologically contradictory authors - Romain Rolland and Jean Anouilh in their works Le 14 juillet, Danton, Robespierre...

L’esthétique symboliste selon Charles Van LerbergheFrench

Aestetics of symbolism by Charles Van Lerberghe

Judyta ZBIERSKA-MO¦CICKA

Écho des études romanes 2006, 2(1):67-78 | DOI: 10.32725/eer.2006.006

Aesthetic doctrine of Charles Van Lerberghe, the Belgian poet, reveals a vast array of issues baffling both the French and Belgian symbolists. Definitions of beauty and symbol, presented in the article and discussions on the synthesis of arts underscore aesthetic reflection, full of hesitation, doubts and contradictions so characteristic for the period.

À la recherche de l’expressionnisme théâtral en FranceFrench

In search of theatrical expressionism in France

Tomasz KACZMAREK

Écho des études romanes 2006, 2(1):79-92 | DOI: 10.32725/eer.2006.007

When speaking of expressionism, we immediately, and sometimes exclusively, think of the art movement that arose in Germany at the beginning of the 20th century. However, the characteristics, which tend to manifest in art the inner world of feelings even by exasperating and deforming the data of reality, are no less realised in other countries, for example, in France. Although France ostentatiously rejects German production for political reasons, there one finds writers such as H.-R. Lenormand, S. Gantillon or J.-V. Pellerin, to name but the most important, who write in a manner that conforms to expressionist aesthetics. Their works resemble, first...
