Language change and Lexicon-Grammar

Michele De Gioia

Écho des études romanes 2021, 17(2):5-28 | DOI: 10.32725/eer.2021.014

This study focuses on the problem of the relationship between two linguistic research areas: language change and Lexicon-Grammar. For the first area, the linguistic notions of “change” and “variation” and the way they lead to orality are explored. For the second area, the method and specific fundamental principles are formulated; it is then shown how several Lexicon-Grammar descriptions capture interesting phenomena of linguistic change. Finally, after theoretically framing these fields and highlighting the possibilities of contact, the author suggests further perspectives for collaborative research.

Jiøí Pelán

Écho des études romanes 2021, 17(2):29-49 | DOI: 10.32725/eer.2021.015

In the extensive literary production of Sebastiano Vassalli (1941-2015), we can witness an evolution of his poetics from his initial formation within the avant-garde Gruppo 63 towards a more traditional prose. In this change of perspective, Vassalli's tendency to include in his narratives a documented attention to real historical events, within which his characters move, each following his own original destiny, played a fundamental role. The literary references, in Italy and abroad, from which Vassalli could draw are numerous and well known (Manzoni, Leopardi, Pirandello, Sciascia, Queneau, García Marquez...). On the strength of this methodology, Vassalli...

Jaroslava Mare¹ová

Écho des études romanes 2021, 17(2):63-73 | DOI: 10.32725/eer.2021.017

The paper deals with short stories written by Josefina Plá and especially with the topic of identity in them. Josefina Plá is one of the most important writers of Paraguay although she was born in Spain. When she came to Paraguay in 1927, she immediately began to write, publish, and play an important part in the culture of the country that would be her home for the rest of her life. Her short stories, written from the 1940s but published mainly in the 1980s, are less known than her dramas and poetry. She classified her short stories into three main groups: short stories about uprooted people, short stories about her environs, and short stories with...

Words ending in -landia and their translation into Slovak language

Bohdan Ula¹in

Écho des études romanes 2021, 17(2):93-108 | DOI: 10.32725/eer.2021.019

In this article, we analyse the formant -landia and the meanings it brings to the newly coined neologisms. As it is a relatively new element, there are still doubts about its classification since it exhibits both suffixal and compositional features. Different semantic uses are illustrated with real-life examples. One of the objectives of the article is also to search for parallel mechanisms in Slovak that are equivalent to the use of -landia in Spanish.

Giulia D’Andrea
