Global text structure and computational representation. A challenge for textual discourse analysis

In this paper, we propose an analysis of the global text structure, and, at the same time, we formulate some desiderata for the computational processing of this structure. We will first present the key principles of our theoretical approach. Then, we will apply this theoretical framework to the analysis of an excerpt from the text The Power of the Powerless by Václav HAVEL, showing in parallel the correlation of the postulated categories with the annotation model. Finally, we will mention a series of technical proposals that a computational application should take into account in order to be able to integrate our model of the global structure within its annotation functionalities.
