Camilleri political

Andrea Camilleri was an Italian writer and intellectual. He was born in Sicily and died in 2019, dedicating most of his life to writing about his native land. He is mostly known for his crime novels about the police commissioner Montalbano. He also wrote many historical novels. Camilleri was a key person in the Italian public life as he was always present in the political and social battles. He dedicated all his life to political issues, especially to the Italian political situation. He was one of the last public intellectuals. The article focuses on the Camilleri’s figure as a public intellectual of contemporary Italy, who was critical towards politics and the choices made by several governments and the country. As a man of the 20th century, he had problems with understanding these choices, but at the same time he wanted to help Italy, which he always loved. The article also focuses on the interviews he gave to newspapers and TV channels. The author of the present paper has collected their most significant parts. Thanks to the interviews of the past ten years, the reader will learn about Camilleri’s passion for the Italian world and his criticism of a society that he is not able to understand.
