La literatura moderna entre arte y política : sobre la sociosemiótica postmarxista de Peter V. ZimaSpanish

La sociosemiótica del semiótico literario Peter V. Zima - aún poco conocido en la semiótica hispánica - analiza la estructuración interna del discurso y su modo de funcionamiento dentro de un contexto sociohistórico establecido. En este artículo queremos centrar la atención en un elemento importante de su obra : la función de la literatura en la sociedad. Según Zima, la modernidad encarna una pérdida masiva y estructural de sentido. Solo el arte y la literatura se abren a la realidad y son capaces de reflejar las posibilidades utópicas. En este sentido, la literatura moderna de Kafka, Proust, Cortázar o de Unamuno simboliza un plus de significado. Se alimenta con la referencia a algo que se sustrae a lo decible, lo controlable y lo unívoco. Aunque hay muchos puntos de diferencia en la conexión entre Zima, Lukács, Goldmann y Adorno, actúa la misma estructura de base normativa y dual. Es decir que, gracias a la autoridad ética de la literatura crítica, se supera una modernidad experimentada como problemática (con los excesos propios de un sujeto alienado y de una ciencia despersonificada). Aquí pretendemos reflejar la reciprocidad analítica de la teoría crítica y de la literatura modernista en la sociosemiótica de Zima. De esta manera - como queremos mostrar - se llega finalmente a la teoría literaria que estiliza un tipo definido de literatura moderna hasta cierto refugio, un ambiente subversivo o una fuerza negativa contra el mundo capitalista y despersonalizado. El concepto de modernidad y literatura de Zima se presenta en muchos aspectos como una defensa postmarxista a favor de una noción de valores sociales renovada.

Modern literature between arts and politics: about Peter V. Zima's postmarxist sociosemiotics

The sociosemiotics of the literary semiotician Peter V. Zima - who is still little known in Spanish-language semiotics - analyzes the internal structure of discourse and its mode of functioning in specific socio-historical contexts. In this contribution an important element in Zima's work will be focused on: the function of literature in society. According to Zima, modernity caused a massive structural loss of meaning. Only art and literature are able to project a utopian perspective of a world that makes sense. In this respect, modern literature from e.g. Kafka, Proust, Cortázar or Unamuno symbolizes an information value that cannot be reached by other media. This value is based on the reference to something which transcends the sayable, the controlable and the unequivocal. Although many differences between Zima, Lukács, Goldmann, and Adorno may exist, they all use, to a certain extent, the same normative and dualistic structure in analyzing literature. Thanks to the postulated ethical authority of critical modern literature a problematic modernity (with an alienated subject and a depersonified science as typical symptoms) can be overcome. The aim of this contribution is to reflect upon the analytical reciprocity of Critical Theory and modernist literature in Zima's sociosemiotics. A certain type of literature - modernist literature more specifically - is represented as a safe refuge, a subversive medium, or a negative force in a capitalist and alienated world. Zima's concept of modernity and literature can in many ways be seen as a postmarxist defense in favour of a renewed notion of social values.
