Variation dans l’expression des relations spatio-temporelles en français médiévalFrench

Variation in the expression of spatio-temporal relations in medieval French

Malinka VELINOVA

Écho des études romanes 2011, 7(1):5-19 | DOI: 10.32725/eer.2011.001

The paper intends to show that lexical and syntactical diversity in the expression of spatio-temporal relations via relative pronouns or/and conjunctions in medieval French is a function - at least in certain cases, though these could be very few - of enunciative and discursive peculiarities of the texts. To this end, we turn our attention to the medieval usage of où and quand and of the concurrent forms serving to express spatial and temporal localization respectively. We make a brief survey of their variations and changes relying on an examination of an Old French corpus which, though restricted, is built up of texts of different genres, which...

Oggetti interni e reaction objects come nomi predicativi di costrutti a verbo supportoItalian

Cognate and reaction objects as predicative nouns of support verb constructions

Ignazio Mauro MIRTO

Écho des études romanes 2011, 7(1):21-47 | DOI: 10.32725/eer.2011.002

Analyses regarding clauses with a cognate object (CO), e.g. Alice laughed a scornful laugh, have frequently been based on the query: is the CO an adjunct or a complement? This paper aims to contribute to the debate with an alternative suggestion: the CO functions as a noun predicate licensing the subject, to which it assigns a semantic role, whilst the verb functions as a support (a 'light verb'). A number of the well-known properties of COs, e.g. certain constraints on the determiner, appear to corroborate this analysis. Clauses with the so-called reaction object (RO), e.g. Alice coughed a scornful laugh, are analyzed as multi-predicative as well:...

Formes et valeurs de l’énumération dans Un río, un amor de L. Cernuda (1929) et Espadas como labios de V. Aleixandre (1931)French

Formes and values of accumulation in Luis Cernuda's Un río, un amor (1929) and Vicente Aleixandre's Espadas como labios (1931)

Lucie LAVERGNE

Écho des études romanes 2011, 7(1):49-60 | DOI: 10.32725/eer.2011.003

Accumulation and inventories are an underlying element the writing of Luis Cernuda's Un río, un amor and Vicente Aleixandre's Espadas como labios. But what structure does it give the poems? What poetical space and what rhythm does it contribute to the form? Inventories are not easy to define grammatically and they include both coordination and juxtaposition, yet we can identify two elements that contribute to their composition: repetition and otherness. The first category includes accumulations of the terms which point to one referent. Here they produce immobility and powerlessness and they represent the "stutter" of language....

Le contrôle social dans Le Vieillard amoureux (Il vecchio amoroso) de Donato Giannotti (1492-1573)French

Social control in Il vecchio amoroso by Donato Giannotti (1492-1573)

Gérard VITTORI

Écho des études romanes 2011, 7(1):61-77 | DOI: 10.32725/eer.2011.004

The comedy Il vecchio amoroso (The old Man in Love) depicts a situation of disorder: two fathers-in-law compete with their sons for the love of a young girl. The two old men want to abuse their fatherly authority but the control exercised by the third parties, by look and by the speech they utter or are likely to utter, does contribute to the outcome of the play. We regard the function of this discourse as social control aiming to regulate human relationships

Paul Morand et les indigénistes haïtiensFrench

Paul Morand and the Haitian Indigenists

Dominique LANNI

Écho des études romanes 2011, 7(1):79-90 | DOI: 10.32725/eer.2011.005

From January to March 1927, Paul Morand visited the United States and the Antilles in order to write the third part of his "Twentieth century chronicle": "a novel on American Negroes". Morand intended to write a novel but during the trip his project evolved into a collection of short stories on Afro-Americans in the United States, the Antilles and Africa. In November 1927, he returned back to the United States and to the Antilles to complete his "documentation". It was during this second stay that he met Haitian Indigenists. The aim of this paper is to show the decisive role played by the encounter of Haitian Indigenists on Morand's perception and...

L’écrivain dans le miroir de la littérature ou comment situer Michel TournierFrench

The writer in the mirror of literature or how to place Michel Tournier

Luciana PENTELIUC-COTOªMAN

Écho des études romanes 2011, 7(1):91-102 | DOI: 10.32725/eer.2011.006

Michel Tournier's writing is nouanced and able to assimilate everything. It is based on novelistic language and metaphysics, on myth and fairy tale, and it maintains a permanent and fruitful relationship with literature. This article aims to situate Tournier's work in the composite landscape of contemporary literature and to place it in perspective, in relation to other creative pathways that may contribute to explaining it.Tournier is an heir who innovates. He cultivates a traditional novelistic but original formula, a naturalist and mystic formula, which combines the ability to observe and document rigorously with an interest in metaphysics,...

La literatura moderna entre arte y política : sobre la sociosemiótica postmarxista de Peter V. ZimaSpanish

Modern literature between arts and politics: about Peter V. Zima's postmarxist sociosemiotics

Arvi SEPP

Écho des études romanes 2011, 7(1):103-118 | DOI: 10.32725/eer.2011.007

The sociosemiotics of the literary semiotician Peter V. Zima - who is still little known in Spanish-language semiotics - analyzes the internal structure of discourse and its mode of functioning in specific socio-historical contexts. In this contribution an important element in Zima's work will be focused on: the function of literature in society. According to Zima, modernity caused a massive structural loss of meaning. Only art and literature are able to project a utopian perspective of a world that makes sense. In this respect, modern literature from e.g. Kafka, Proust, Cortázar or Unamuno symbolizes an information value that cannot be reached by...
