Franz Hellens' real fantasy. Origin and conception

This article focuses on the genesis and conception of the fantastique réel of Franz Hellens (1881-1972), a Francophone Belgian writer. Before defining its nature, the author goes back to the genesis of the term, to Edmond Picard and his characteristic of Belgian literature, as well as to the Hellens' conception of fantastic as a literary genre. She then studies Hellens' fiction to identify the essence of her fantastique réel which is based on the harmonious reconciliation of the real and unreal, as well as the function of the gaze and dream in the discovery of the supernatural in the real.
