Ondøej PE©EK

Écho des études romanes 2013, 9(2):5-19 | DOI: 10.32725/eer.2013.014

In the following paper we focus on the controversial period around the year 1950 in Czechoslovakia which was marked by the advent of the Stalinist regime. Linguistics as well as other sciences and spheres of Czech society had to adapt to the practices of the new totalitarian regime. By means of discourse analysis, we try to show different aspects of the campaign which was led against functional structuralism and, consequently, against the Prague Linguistic Circle in the name of Marxist ideology.

Catherine CAMUGLI GALLARDO

Écho des études romanes 2013, 9(2):21-34 | DOI: 10.32725/eer.2013.015

This paper aims to contribute to the current updating of the CZER1 lexicon grammar table of Italian frozen verbal phrases (« V Det Zéro N1 » /N0 cambiare bandiera, change sides). The analysis of a contemporary corpus of written utterances comprising verbs of speech whose objects are exclamations « V. say - N1 exclamation » has helped me to add further details to some of the definitions in the original table and to propose other possible verbs which may belong to these frozen phrases. Comparing these utterances has enabled me to suggest that what makes these phrases frozen utterances is less the specific quality of N1 than the so...

The problem of unknown words (words not recognized by automated language analysis systems) is one of great importance for Natural Language Processing (NLP). In this paper, we consider as unknown those words which are not recognized in a given corpus, the corpus of Greek Stock Exchange texts, since they are not included in the general dictionaries and terminologies for the Greek language, as used by the NLP systems. In this special domain, it is a critical issue, due to the rapid development of technical and scientific languages. In order to expand our resources, especially as regards new domains, it is necessary to acquire new terms as soon as possible...

Écho des études romanes 2013, 9(2):47-57 | DOI: 10.32725/eer.2013.017

This paper deals with the linguistic phenomenon of polysemy and its presence in legal language. The author is interested in the possibilities of its treatment in the sense of disambiguation of the legal text. After a delimitation of the subject, the paper presents primarily some theoretical observations of G. Cornu, who analysed the presence of this phenomenon in detail in his book Linguistique juridique. Secondly, the paper proposes a concrete example of the legislative treatment of polysemy taken from the new Czech Civil Code.

El soldado fanfarrón gascón en el teatro francés del XVI y XVIISpanish

The Gascon braggart soldier in the French theatre of the 16th and 17th centuries

Josef PROKOP

Écho des études romanes 2013, 9(2):59-67 | DOI: 10.32725/eer.2013.018

In the 16th and 17th century the braggart soldier receives a Spaniard identity in the Spanish and Italian theatre. Surprisingly French theatre assumes this tendency only partially. Generally its braggart soldiers appear without any geographical origin. It is only in the early 17th century when the braggart begins to be depicted there as Gascon. This article aims to reflect on this phenomenon in comparison with the mentioned appearance of the Spanish braggart in Italy. On one hand, the literary life of the Spanish soldier is associated with the Spanish military and courteous prestige in 16th century Europe and the character dies off gradually with the...

The objective of this article is to show, by means of an approximation of Mallarme's poetry and Hegel's philosophy, how random a fundamental element can be in the construction of a concept of fiction which can allow us to rethink and restore the relationship between literature and reality.

La France, une passion égyptienne. Une lecture du Tarbouche de Robert SoléFrench

France, a passion for Egyptians. A reading of Robert Solé's Le Tarbouche

Manal HOSNY

Écho des études romanes 2013, 9(2):79-90 | DOI: 10.32725/eer.2013.020

According to Robert Solé in L'Égypte passion française, Egypt used to be "one of the most lively francophone communities of the planet." The writer, born in Cairo into a Levantine family with whom he left Egypt when he was 17 years old, is well versed in such a topic. His first novel Le Tarbouche takes place in the country of his childhood. This family saga that recalls the history of the Greek Catholic community established in Egypt since the 19th Century, evokes the questions of belonging and identity. It also highlights the protagonists' relation to languages: Arabic, the language of their origin which they do not speak well...
